Our clients at the luxury boutique hotel SLS Hotel Beverly Hills had a specific requirement for a massive 7,000-square-foot rooftop deck to encircle their pool area. They wanted the deck to be durable, low maintenance, and safe for guests to walk on, whether barefoot or with shoes. To meet their requirements, we consulted with the clients throughout the design process, and we suggested using ipe wood, a South American wood that is naturally resistant to weathering, rot, decay, termites, moisture, splintering, and other environmental threats. Ipe wood is dense and has natural oils that make it low-maintenance and long-lasting, a perfect commercial deck .
As the deck surrounds a pool, it is crucial to ensure that the hotel guests feel safe and comfortable walking barefoot. Ipe wood is the ideal choice for this project since it is resistant to splintering and stays cool even when exposed to the sun, making it the perfect wood for this project.
