Los Feliz Thermal Ceiling Siding

January 2024
Los Feliz, California
Residential

This Los Feliz residential project, currently in installation, features a grand home with extensive use of thermally modified ayous for the first and second-floor exteriors, including siding and ceilings, as well as ipe for the decking. The project began with a thorough design consultation to capture the client’s vision, resulting in detailed plans and 3D renderings. The construction team is now installing these premium materials to enhance the home’s aesthetic and durability, starting with the thermally modified ayous and then transitioning to the massive ipe deck.

Thermally modified ayous is a type of wood that goes through a zero-chemical heat and steam treatment to remove its moisture, leaving behind a lightweight, stable, rich in color, resistant, and easy to install wood that is excellent for interior and exterior sidings and ceilings. Its newfound properties make it moisture-resistant, meaning our client will have less maintenance issues than if they used traditional woods such as redwood, cedar, or pine. Additionally, ipe is a tropical hardwood from South America with one of the highest densities of any wood in the world. Its extreme density and natural oils make it an excellent decking material, as it is resistant to natural elements, including splintering and heating up when exposed to the sun, so our client’s loved ones can walk around barefoot safely and comfortably. Once this project is completed, our client’s home will have a beautiful and cohesive home with the thermally modified woods consistently thoughout the home and a deck that will last the test of time.
