LA Decks has just completed yet another breathtaking project – the renovation of a Malibu home. The 7,000-square-foot project included a complete renovation of the backyard, from an outdoor shower and stairs to massive backyard renovations that circles the whole property, creating a beautiful and functional outdoor living space. Our clients were specific about their needs and preferences for the project. They chose ipe wood for all of the applications due to its exceptional durability and resistance to environmental threats such as fungus, termites, decay, rot, moisture, mildew, and splintering. They also wanted a hardwood that would require minimal maintenance and maintenance only every few years.
The rich colors of ipe wood beautifully complemented the white house and greenery in the backyard, creating a cohesive and harmonious look. The fade of the ipe wood when exposed to sunlight is a beautiful silver-gray patina that many of our clients find appealing. However, some prefer the original color of ipe wood and opt to oil their decks annually or biennially, depending on the level of exposure. What makes ipe wood exceptional is that its structural integrity and stability remain steadfast even after color fading, unlike traditional woods used for decking such as cedar and redwood. This ensures that this residential deck will last for many years to come, providing a functional and beautiful outdoor living space for our clients to enjoy.
